Losing for Life is a 90-day weight loss contest brought to you by the Burlington Rotary Club. It is open to adults age 18 and up, in Kit Carson County, Wray, Goodland, Cheyenne Wells, and the surrounding area. The challenge begins March 1st and ends May 31st. Individual entry categories are ladies age18-39 and 40+, and men age 18-39 and 40+. Team entries are allowed for groups of 3-6 participants age 18+, ladies, men, or combined. There is a $500 cash grand prize for the winner of each category. 2nd and 3rd place will receive either a 6-month gym membership or a Fitbit.
The goal of this project is to have fun and build comradery in the community while promoting healthy lifestyles in the high plains area. Proceeds from the contest will go to the Burlington Rotary Club to be used for projects that will benefit the greater community.
During the contest, there will be events to help motivate and encourage exercise and comradery with the contestants participating in the contest. One event will be a 5k (3.1 miles) walk/run in Burlington in April. Another event will be a bike ride from Burlington to a neighboring community with refresh stations along the way. This will be held in May. Both events will be open to the public for a fee and free for Losing for Life contestants. After the completion of the contest, there will be an awards ceremony in Burlington in June. Be sure to check out the Burlington Rotary Club Facebook page or www.losingforlife.club for event updates!
Registration and locations for weigh-ins will be open from February 23 through March 8. Each participant will receive a packet of goodies from local business sponsors with exclusive promotions for contestants.
